Twitter will support “names” for geodata, increased complexity, need to pick a place from a list. Not fully automatic , more like tagging.
Word of the day at #where20 : GeoHose. I like this, “sockets” to twitter, thru the streaming API, for keywords and location #activitystreams
Interesting tidbit: Twitter fetches know geourls to parse location on msgs (richer than metadata out of band, kind of like rel=loc link)
4 approach Twitter tried for Geo: Grid/Quadtrees, Geohash, Space filling curves, R-Tree. Geohash was used by Mixer Labs #where20
